Reflections
Last page revision: Dec 2024
We present this page to encourage and allow us to reflect on Avenue Campus, what it meant to us and to Northampton, and how so many people were connected to the site over almost 100 years of history. Whether you have faith or none, let us take time to remember and contemplate.
Selfie of university chaplain, Revd Dr. Stuart Mousir-Harrison in Maidwell Reception, June 2018.
For most of the life of the building, the reception area had the benefit of a suspended ceiling. This was removed for stylistic effect in the final years of the site, and the above concrete floor can be seen in this image, along with metal cable trunking for wires!
The Multi-Faith Chaplaincy had a facility at Avenue - Maidwell room MY40.
After a significant number of staff moved to the Newton building at Avenue - following the closure of Park Campus in November 2018 - a second room was opened in Newton - room 122. With far fewer students on site due to relocation to the new site, Waterside, MY40 latterly had few visitors - but it remained open.
In addition to his bases, the chaplain was often to be found out and about on site, often accompanying a trolley with free tea, coffee and biscuits! An example is in Maidwell Reception - see photo on the right.
A Prayer for Avenue
By Revd Stuart Mousir-Harrison
University of Northampton Chaplain, 2007-present
Almighty God,
We give you thanks and praise for all with whom
we lived and laughed, studied and strived in the years
of Avenue Campus and the colleges that came before.
We remember with gratitude those who trained and
taught us, by word and example, the various disciplines
down the decades.
As we hold before you those memories stirred in the
images of this place, which formed and shaped us in many ways,
give us the grace to build upon the good,
the strength to set aside the bad,
and the courage to continue our journey on.
May we make a positive difference to those we meet,
And in doing so, display something of your nature
Revealed in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
Revd Dr. Stuart Mousir-Harrison, Nov 2024.
